Here's a story on a former Lab Rat softball teammate of mine, Sarah Friskey, who took up Tae Kwon Do about 10 years ago when her then 5-year old son, Austin, began taking lessons. If memory serves, Sarah won her first title in her age group and division not long thereafter.
I especially like this part:
Friskey’s kicks set her apart. She said they aren’t the most technically sound and because of that they often come from unusual angles. Opponents are surprised by the kicks and have a tough time defending against them, according to Hockman.
What do they say about pitchers with poor control? Sometimes the lack of control can be a big asset.
The article mentions that Sarah has always been athletic. I can attest to that, having played softball with her in a co-rec league in Columbia for several years.
I especially enjoyed playing against other teams for the first time, seeing their outfielders chasing down balls hit over their heads by the likes of Friskey.
Addendum: How far has Austin gone with TKD? Has he been able to keep up with his parents.
On a personal note, Eldest is testing for his red belt on Tuesday and Youngest is testing for yellow. I don't think they have a beer-sized belt to go around dad's Miller Middle, so I shant go sauntering about the Do-Jang just yet.
