This website describes economics for students who are considering college study and provides information useful to students who are enrolled in undergraduate programs. Students who study economics will learn to use the ideas developed by economists and to investigate current issues. Economists present their ideas in essays and books as well as in the courses they teach. This website provides an overview of the skills, the literature, and the issues found in modern economics. It also provides information about careers, graduate study, and other opportunities for undergraduates. The questions below link to the same pages as the menu on the left.
That is from the American Economic Association web page for undergraduates and potential undergraduates who might find economics to be an interesting major or minor field of study. It contains information on what the discipline is about and what we economists do. There is also information on the multitude of specialized subfields within the discipline. It does not, from what I saw, offer information about what Sports Economics is all about. For shame. Here's my offering:
Sports economics takes the tools of economic analysis and applies it to the business and playing of sports. Sports economists examine topics such as labor markets in sports, the organization of sports markets, public subsidies for sports and sports stadia, and the incentive mechanisms in sporting contests.
