Preliminary interviews for faculty positions in academic economics departments take place at professional conventions, usually the ASSA meetings. In these interviews, time is of the essence, so you don't have much time to make a second "first impression." In the spirit of Jeff Foxworthy's "You Might be a Redneck:"
1. If one of your interviewers falls asleep during your interview, it might be a bad interview.
2. If your interviewer starts telling you about the college and the city, it might be a bad interview.
3. If one of your interviewers continually nods her head while you speak, it might be a bad interview.
4. If you tell your interviewers that the reason why you are interested in a position is that you need a job and nobody else will interview you, it will be a bad interview.
